is a fan of this post- apocalypti­c curiosity, and it’s easy to see why. Drenched in pop culture references, led by heroic teen girls, it’s a clear antecedent of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

The Day Of

Stealing a cue from The Triffids, the film takes place after the titular comet has wreaked global havoc. Surviving valley girls Regina ( Catherine Mary Stewart) and Samantha ( Kelli Maroney) join forces with Hector ( Robert Beltran) and fight to survive.

Downbeat and melancholi­c, it’s more interestin­g than funny. But the combo of ’ 80s pop, zombie attacks and a doomy red sky make for a unique end of the world.
