RAVES Thank you James Gunn for speaking out against Hollywood types who moan about the quantity of superhero movies. It’s not big- budget actioners that are a problem – it’s bad movies. Luckily we’re living in a little golden age of genre blockbusters – long may it continue. It’s just a title right now, but Star Wars: Rogue

One sounds intriguing.

RAVES Current listening: “Soft Rains” by Zarelli, which samples a 1975 recording of Leonard Nimoy narrating one of Ray Bradbury’s Martian Chronicles. Pleased to see that Larry Cohen’s God Told Me

To has got an all- region Blu- ray release. Check out stuff tucked away on Netflix UK like

Robinson Crusoe On Mars and The Skull.

Alex Cox Operations Editor

RAVES Bit behind ( as usual) but I thought Edge Of Tomorrow was great. The Cruiser is the ultimate in movie value, so much so that I completely forgot about Bill Murray by the end of it. Another thing- o- recommend for those of you with kids: Pancake Manor on YouTube. Infectious Muppety singsongs with topics like space, superheroes and haircare products.

Jonathan Coates Art Editor

RAVES Daniel Craig looks very cool in a Live And Let Die- inspired costume for the latest SPECTRE teaser poster. Mendes and Craig are both excellent so I have high hopes for this.

Rants Waited 25 years for another Ghostbusters movie and now I couldn’t be less interested. No Bill, no Ghostbusters. That’s the rule.

RIP This past 20 years with SFX, I’ve been fortunate to have met many of my heroes from TV and screen, but one particular actor I met a few years ago, really does bring back fond memories. A very intelligent, and charming man, with such a distinguished voice. An actor known to millions around the world and loved by so many. I have been, and always shall be, your fan. Leonard Nimoy ( 1931- 2015)

Rosie Fletcher Acting Editor, Total Film

Raves The winner of the inaugural James Herbert award for horror writing is due to be announced soon. I was on the judging panel for this and I can assure you there’s some glorious, wee- inducing stuff in the shortlist. When can it be time for Mad Max? We’ve waited 30 years for this, can it hurry up already.

Nick Setchfield Features Editor

RAVES Finally caught up with season one of Penny Dreadful, just in time for season two. Just my cup of dark Victorian tea.

RIP It’s never easy writing obits for your heroes but it was a privilege to pay tribute to Leonard Nimoy this issue. Second star on the right, straight on till morning…

Jordan Farley Community Editor

RIP Goodbye Mr Nimoy and Sir Terry – too much sadness for one month.

RAVES Thrilled Neill Blomkamp is making a new Alien film, but not keen on the idea of it seemingly disregarding Alien 3 or Resurrection. Adored the final season of Parks And Rec, which was set in the future!

Russell Lewin Production Editor

RAVES It Follows: unusual and bracing. Worth seeing. The Horror Channel has come to Freeview! This is very good news. Okay, so a semi- fantasy, Birdman, won the Best Film Oscar, but Boyhood was robbed. Finally watched Edge Of Tomorrow. First half ingenious and fun, second half more of a generic action blockbuster.

Dave Bradley Group Ed- in- Chief

RIP Leonard Nimoy was an incredible actor and an icon of TV and cinema. I’ve been rewatching the Star Trek movies in Spock’s honour. News of Sir Terry Pratchett’s final encounter with Death filled me with sadness. Will always have very fond memories of the times we met, including him visiting our offices to guest edit issue 196.

RAVES Festival highlights include Australian time- travel romcom The Infinite Man and futuristic kung- fu hip- hop musical Tokyo Tribe. The latter earns bonus points for a butler who beat- boxes without spilling any tea.

RANTS The 3D CGI Peanuts Movie is like Charlie Brown kicking Lucy’s football – it should never happen.

Tara Bennett US Editor ( East Coast)

RAVES Still basking in the glow of Agent Carter’s run while crossing every digit with hopes of a renewal. And I can attest that Marvel’s next TV series, Daredevil, is one hell of a success too.

RANTS Wish I could say the adaptation of one of my favourite graphic novel series, Powers, was a lot better. Hope it improves.
