Star Trek/ Green Lantern Emerald Enterprise
After Doctor Who and Planet Of The Apes, was only natural that IDW’s next Star Trek crossover should involve “the greatest space- based comic book franchise of all time”. Written by Mike Johnson and drawn by Angel Hernandez, Star Trek/ Green Lantern: The Spectrum War sees Hal Jordan coming up against the current cinematic incarnation of the original USS Enterprise crew.
“All of the iconic Trek cast have important roles to play – and rings to bear – and each of the Lantern colours will be represented,” Johnson tells Red Alert, confirming that the story centres around the Lantern Corps’ rainbow- based Spectrum. “Embracing that gives opportunities not just for epic battles, but also for plenty of meaningful character moments given the emotional nature of the rings.”
Revealing that “Hal has to deal with the existence of a Starfleet and a Federation that doesn’t exist in his reality,” while Kirk and co have to come to terms with the concept of superpowers, Johnson believes that the two properties have much in common. “They both embrace a spirit of epic wonder and unlimited possibility…” he reasons. “The differences tend to be in how those similarities play out. For all its extraordinary sci- fi, Trek still explains and extrapolates within the boundaries of science. But the Lantern universe plays by more traditionally superheroic rules, where incredible things are accepted at face value. So any difficulties that result from combining them are opportunities to explore the ideas that each franchise embodies.”
