Happy belated birthday. Really enjoying the anniversary issue. Have to say I agree with Nick Setchfield regarding The Dark Knight Returns’ influence over all things Batman. It’s a great book, but I’d say Year One is better. People seem to forget that Frank Miller’s other attempts at Batman, Dark Knight Strikes Back and All
were total rubbish. I’d love to see a Batman film closer to the style of the Arkham videogames, which have been brilliant.
I was also very sad to hear about the treatment of Joss Whedon on social media regarding Black Widow’s story in Age of Ultron. When she referred to herself as a monster, I took that to be about her role as an assassin and not her inability to have children. Also, I fail to understand why her romantic storyline was seen as detrimental to the character. You can’t be a kick- ass hero and have a love life?
It is a pity that we’ve yet to see a superhero movie with a female lead character, but I’m looking forward to Captain Marvel, which I hope starts to redress the balance. There’s a lack of strong
