If the film

industry followed a Darwinian model, surely by now we’d be almost free of mediocre low- budget horror movies. Do enough people really watch them for others to be inspired to make more? It seems so.

This British effort features a group of schoolkids who, following term’s end, spend the night patrolling their alma mater as part of an army training exercise. But not only is it being targeted by burglars, an ancient spirit is on the prowl too. How scary!

Well, no, not really: supernatural stuff is low in the mix and the action develops along very familiar lines. The young cast – including Roman Polanski’s daughter Morgane and EastEnders’ Thomas Law – try hard, but the script lacks zip, colour and variety. A fail, sadly.
