Terry Molloy

Davros in Doctor Who

-

Despite having being portrayed by five actors over 40 years, Doctor Who villain Davros – creator of the Daleks – is synonymous with actor Terry Molloy. First breathing life into the hideously scarred, but intellectually superior, Kaled scientist in 1984’ s “Resurrection Of The Daleks”, Molloy has continued to voice the character on stage and in audio dramas.

Would you play the role again on TV?

I’d love to. It’s arduous, physically, but he’s a character I love. He has a depth to him.

What’s the strangest request you’ve had from a fan?

A fan in a cave girl costume came up and asked me to sign them – this fan was 26 stone and male with a beard!

Would any of Davros’s attributes have been useful in real life?

The intellect and the ability to exterminate people is something I feel when I’m driving! I sympathise with Davros. When you look at “Revelation”, he thinks he’s solving starvation, but he’s feeding people dead bodies! Morally that’s not a problem for him.

Did you get any souvenirs from set?

I did have one of my fingers that were blown off in the series. Colin Baker got two of them and I gave one to charity. I plan to raid Colin’s house sometime to get the others back!

What would it say on his gravestone?

There is only a new regeneration to come!
