In 2012’ s Hotel Transylvania, Dracula was an overprotective father forced to come to terms with the fact that his daughter had not only grown up, but fallen in love with a human. In this sequel, Mavis marries Jonathan and they have a son – but young Dennis is looking worryingly like his dad, and Mavis is thinking about moving to California to give him a “normal” life among humans. With the move date looming, Dracula must try to bring out the monster in his grandson before he leaves the hotel behind.

It’s mildly amusing, with a few good visual gags, and children should enjoy watching it at least once. But if you’ve seen the trailer, in which Dennis is dropped from a great height in an effort to force him to fly, be warned that this is about the most entertaining scene in the entire film. An undemanding animation with one- note characters and an ending that’s never really in doubt.

Extras The DVD has two commentaries, a sketch gallery and a music video. The Blu- ray adds deleted scenes, a singalong, and fun featurettes on making scary sounds/ drawing the characters/ throwing a monster party. Rhian Drinkwater

Six- year- old Asher Blinkoff’s favourite part of voicing Dennis was getting driven around Sony in a golf cart. Aw.
