More on how the Outlander team bring the time travel show to vivid life

By the book It’s no secret that the passionate book readers feel very possessive of the Outlander world and are very invested in wanting to know if the TV series will continue to follow the book narratives closely. To that Moore says regarding season two, “We do the best we can and we’re always trying to preserve the spirit of what it is to serve the fan audience but also the audience who has no idea what the books are about.” He insists that any deviations will be in line with season one’s – expanded characters or added perspectives used to broaden the world.

To be continued When we last saw Jamie and Claire in season one, they were on a boat headed to France to enact their history changing plans. Where will season two pick up? Balfe teases, “We all felt quite strongly that when we meet these characters again it’s a continuation of last year. You don’t go through a traumatic event like that and just bounce back very easily. They have figure out how to navigate this new world and they assume very new roles as well. You always fear when you go back it might be like rehashing the same old stuff but it’s felt very new.”

Casting kin For fans of the book series, one of the most anticipated announcements regarding season two has been the casting of Claire and Jamie’s daughter, Brianna, and the grown- up version of Reverend Wakefield’s son, Roger. However it took almost the entirety of the second season shoot to announce actors Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin. Moore explains, “We had been looking at tape for a long time for Roger and Brianna because they are such key characters moving forward. We took our time with it like we did with Jamie and Claire.”

Fighting frocks There’s plenty of drama for Claire to overcome in Outlander season two, but Balfe admits that the most unexpected obstacle has been the Parisian finery here character is now wearing. “The costumes are so beautiful,” the actress says of Claire’s array of Court- worthy frocks. “Terry Dresbach has outdone herself. But they are very restrictive, which after jumping up and down on horses and running around in the Highlands, that was an adjustment. They change everything.”
