Jeph Loeb tells us why Marvel’s Most Wanted isn’t just another Agents Of SHIELD

-

We’ve got the first word on Agents of SHIELD spin- off Marvel’s Most Wanted.

The introduction of secret agent Bobbi Morse ( aka Mockingbird) and her mercenary ex- husband, Lance Hunter, gave Agents Of SHIELD a boost back in season two. Now the pair are graduating to their own spin- off show, Marvel’s Most Wanted, which currently has a pilot in production.

“People have been calling it Mr & Mrs Smith in the Marvel Universe,” laughs Jeph Loeb, executive vice president of Marvel Television. “That is a little bit of it, but only in the sense that there’s a hot, sexy couple doing hot, sexy things. But this is really a love story about two people who no longer have anything to do with SHIELD. It doesn’t look like that show and it doesn’t feel like that show.”

Loeb promises a more intimate, grounded storyline to the Inhuman adventures that Coulson’s crew are currently embroiled in. “It’s not big flying planes and Simmons coming up with a cure for something every episode.”

There’s a hot, sexy couple doing hot, sexy things. But this is really a love story

Loeb says that capitalising on what sets Morse and Hunter apart from their former comrades is what showrunners Jeff Bell and Paul Zbyszewski focused on while writing their pilot script. “Agents Of SHIELD, at its core, is a story about family. It’s a diverse family and a complicated family… They depend on each other and care very much about each other.”

With Most Wanted, which finds our ex- agents alone and on the run, that sense of family is out of the window. “Here are these two people who have a very real problem. Who can they trust? Can they trust each other? That kind of back and forth will be an awful lot of fun, and lets us get at some characters we’ve never seen before, who are well- known, that very much live in that merc world.”

Actors Delroy Lindo, Oded Fehr and Fernanda Andrade have also been cast in the pilot. Loeb remains tight- lipped on who they are playing, but it is known that Fehr will play the villain – said to be a familiar Marvel character – and that Lindo is taking the role of rogue adventurer Dominic Fortune.

“One of the things that is delightful is that the Marvel Universe gives us different places to go. Guardians Of The Galaxy is different to

Captain America. Doctor Strange will open new doors. The characters who live in Hell’s Kitchen are very different from the characters that are on SHIELD. We wanted to go to a new place in this series. Characters like Dominic Fortune live in the grey and can turn on a dime. And that’s a very exciting way for us to tell stories.”

Marvel’s Most Wanted will be airing in the US later this year.

don’t quote me “I was accused of givin g the plot awa y, but I just think get a f** kin g life . It’s onl y tits and dragons .” Ian McShane has some strong words for Game Of Thrones fans accusing him of giving away spoilers.
