#ENJOY THE SILENCE Linda Scholefield, email

I have finished watching Doctor Who episode “The Lie Of The Land” and does anyone else think the Monks and the Silence are similar! Maybe they are related, distant cousins perhaps? If so how come they have both been with us throughout history? How did they decide who did what? Did they zap each other with their lightning hands? Or did the Monks just forget about the Silence?

It’s not just you, Linda. We thought the same thing – though the Monks were single-handedly responsible for the creation of SFX, and we applaud their magnificent benevolence.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge was entertaining, but not worthy of the high praise it appeared to receive. The film featured some great effects, but was otherwise a fairly standard, run-of-the-mill movie. The effects for the ghost pirates were very well-realised though and makes me hope for a film adaptation of the video game The Curse Of Monkey Island, with the humour that made that game so much fun.

If Lucasfilm ever gets bored of making Star Wars movies, taking Guybrush Threepwood from their videogame archive to the big screen wouldn’t be a bad idea.

#MONKEYING AROUND Susannah Bell, email

I’m almost embarrassed to say that I really love 12 Monkeys. I feel somehow that I shouldn’t! I love that half the time I’m frantically trying to remember what happened before because most of the time I can’t quite work out what’s going on. I’m really hoping this doesn’t get cancelled any time soon. Resetting the timeline for each series while still maintaining the series arc requires the kind of imaginative, smart writing that I just don’t see anywhere else.

It’s been confirmed you’ve got one more season to go – make the most of it!

#ROGER THAT Andy, email

James Bond isn’t supposed to die. As a child of the ’70s, one of my earliest cinematic memories is watching Moonraker at my local flea pit aged seven, and it was there I found my all-time favourite movie hero. Bank holidays and Christmases were eagerly awaited opportunities to watch him again, defeating steel-dentured giants and gun-toting midgets with an arch of the eyebrow and a quip. I loved his safari suit, his magnetic watch, his underwater car and his Union Jack parachute. Roger Moore was my James Bond and nobody did it better.

And it sounds like Sir Roger was a top human being as well. Farewell, Mr Bond.

I couldn’t fail to notice the unmistakable visage of Boris Johnson in your feature on classic show Star Fleet. Hope he’s better at saving the universe than he is at diplomacy and foreign affairs!

Great, thanks Ashley – now I’ll never be able to watch Star Fleet again.

Is every modern day blockbuster that isn’t Marvel or Star Wars guaranteed to be slated on sites like Rotten Tomatoes? Just checked out the rating for

The Mummy and, as of 11 June, it’s at 17%, which is insane!

I don’t think it’s a conspiracy – more that, aside from a few exceptions like Wonder Woman, Marvel and Lucasfilm are making better blockbusters than their rivals. Take note, Hollywood!
