CHRISTOPHER LLOYD
Doc Emmett L Brown in Back To The Future
The 30th anniversary celebrations for
Back To The Future (1985) proved that the film is as much loved now as it ever was. Still regarded as a gold standard for blockbuster filmmaking, it also coined some of Generation X’s most recognisable movie quotes, and managed to make DeLorean cars iconic. So it’s a good thing that Christopher Lloyd, who created one of cinema’s most iconic scientists in Dr emmett Lathrop Brown, is as much a fan of the franchise as anyone. where we’re going, we don’t need roads...
Would you like to play the role again?
yes, I would! It doesn’t look like there’s going to be a Back To The Future 4 but certainly if it happened I would love to do it again.
You got to reprise the role as a cameo in A Million Ways To Die In The West (2014). How was that?
that was so much fun. It fit into the movie so easily, so it was a great piece, catching Doc doing his thing. And I enjoyed working with Seth MacFarlane.
And if Doc Brown was around now, what would he be up to?
I think he’d want to get into global warming – the science involved with that and how to resolve it so that the human race can continue.
Did you keep any souvenirs from the set of Back To The Future?
All I have is Doc Brown’s shirt with a train on it that I wore in Back To The Future 3 (1990).
What would it say on Doc Brown’s gravestone?
“See you on the other side!” TP
