WARHAMMER: AGE OF SIGMAR Second Edition

RELEASED OUT NOW! Number of players 2

Publisher Games Workshop

The second edition of Age Of Sigmar moves the background story on considerably, but is otherwise a case of refining the tabletop wargame, rather than reinventing it wholesale. The events of this year’s Malign Portents campaign have rippled throughout reality and now Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead, is on the rise. Standing between him and conquest of the Realms are a new chamber of Sigmar’s Stormcast Eternals. At the Battle for Glymmsforge, the two forces will clash...

The Soul Wars boxed set includes models for both armies, a lavish core book and a booklet that lets you play out the encounter at Glymmsforge. While the first edition was comparatively light on background material, this is crammed with maps, paintings, stories and other world-building ephemera, giving a much stronger sense of what you’re fighting for. There’s also been greater consideration given to how that world-building affects the games themselves, with rules reflecting the properties of the different realms an especially cool addition. The game is slightly more complicated than before, with a bolstered magic system and some elements of the General’s Handbook annuals incorporated into the main ruleset. That said, it’s still a fast and streamlined system. If you already have the first edition and aren’t interested in the “fluff” then the boxed set isn’t essential – you can download the upgraded rules for free or buy the core book separately. If you’re new to the game or care about its ongoing narrative, however, then this is essential – and the Nighthaunt miniatures included are stunning.

To get the most out of the new magic system you’ll also need the Malign Sorcery expansion set, also out now.

Essential if you’re new to the game
