“This could possibly be my meal ticket into retirement!”

Michael Douglas is Hank Pym

- James Mottram

What inspired you to join Ant-Man?

there was a conscious thought, when I got involved with this, this could possibly be my meal ticket into retirement! But I’m happy to be part of the Marvel family. It’s really been a hell of a lot of fun.

Were you a Marvel expert before you signed on?

Not really. they send you a very nice coffee table book of Marvel characters for your reading pleasure! A lot of the Ant-Man stuff with Hank Pym… he’s in his prime. Now we’ve moved him to a senior position and he’s passing everything on to Scott.

The sequel concentrates on the search for Janet. But what’s Hank’s relationship like with Hope now?

We had our struggles, and it’s been smoothed out… we work well together but this whole underpinning of possibly being able to see her mother again is a nice touch.

What’s Peyton Reed like as a director?

Peyton is really sharp and a great conductor. I’m amazed how he’s able to keep all this sheet music in front of him and keep the tone he’s able to have on it.

You partly shot in Atlanta, right?

We were down there when the Avengers: Infinity War was overlapping. We got to see a bit of it. robert Downey and I go back a while; we did this picture called Wonder Boys together in 2000 so I’ve known him a long time. He’s a wonderful host down there to the whole Avengers cast.
