Pollyanna McIntosh makes her feature-directing debut with this uneven but compelling sequel to 2011’s The Woman, which sees the now feral youngest daughter of the Cleek family, Darlin’, led back into civilisation by The Woman and adopted into a Catholic boarding school run by a paedo priest. Ambitious but convoluted, and buoyed by strong performances, it’s a visceral and violent social horror/coming-of-age tale which comes alive every time McIntosh is on screen.
