Leonard Nimoy’s mysterious world

William Shatner isn’t the only Star Trek icon to present a show on unexplaine­d phenomena. Between 1977 and 1982, Leonard Nimoy hosted In Search Of…, a weekly documentar­y series probing the fringes of reality.

The Twilight Zone’s Rod Serling was the original choice of presenter but died before production began. Trading on his Trek fame, Nimoy brought his brand of Vulcan gravitas to such classic Fortean subjects as Bigfoot, Tutankhamu­n’s curse and UFOs, along with deeply ’70s concerns such as the Amityville horror, the Bermuda Triangle and killer bees from Brazil (“A deadly bee is spreading northward toward the United States…”)

In Search Of… was revived in 2002, hosted by The X-Files’ Mitch Pileggi, and again in 2018, fronted by Zachary Quinto, who played Spock in the rebooted Star Trek movies. A most logical choice…
