SARAH GONER

Robyn Addison, aka Sarah Boyer, looks back on her big break

-

How do you remember Survivors now?

I look back on my time working on it with such fondness. We had such a brilliant ensemble of actors and a wonderful crew who made every day on set a fun place to be, despite the bleak subject matter. It was the first time I’d played a regular character in a series, so it was a joy to tell Sarah’s story and explore her complexities over a longer period of time. I loved working on it and I’m really proud of it.

Your character was killed off at the end of series two. How did you feel when you found out?

I was told very early on during filming of the second series at a meeting with Adrian and Hugh [Warren, producer], and I was really excited to hear what they had in store for me. I was thrilled at the prospect of showing a different side to Sarah in the lead-up to her death. Obviously, I was gutted that I’d no longer be part of the cast, but my character’s story arc was really well written, and definitely a challenge to play.

Given what’s happening now, have you considered revisiting the series as a viewer?

Definitely. I think Survivors shows the best and worst of humanity during a crisis and its aftermath. Obviously the pandemic that opens Survivors is a deadlier, more extreme version of what’s happening in the world now, but the series does feel eerily prescient, and certainly worth a rewatch.

How have you been filling your days during lockdown?

We [her husband is actor Shane Zaza] take a walk in the park early in the morning, a lot of cooking throughout the day, a bit of reading and some work, and then we try to maintain a busy virtual social life in the evenings. Routine has definitely been the key to keeping us chipper and sane!
