Empty your bladder before watching this Rutger Hauer vehicle: the sound of trickling water recurs so often that otherwise you may need to dash for a pee.
The year: 2008. Postglobal warming, London is waterlogged – well, the disused jam factory where most of the shooting took place is, anyway. Hauer, striding about in a duster coat and leather kegs to a Vangelis/Terminator ripoff score, is a trigger-happy maverick cop, slamming people against walls as he investigates a series of heart-removal murders. Basically, it’s ITV does Blade Runner.
The title’s meaningless, and the plot is half-baked, with the killer profiled as a returning serial killer, then something Satanic, then revealed as a toothy Alien/Predator mash-up. Kim Cattrall, as Hauer’s love interest, has little to do beyond leave one shoulder strap seductively dangling. But the world-building’s decent, and the bug-eyed dialogue (“Satan is in deep shit!”) amiably goofy.
Extras A light-hearted chat between actor Alastair Duncan and producer Laura Gregor (27 minutes) has some good anecdotes. New interviews with the composer, line producer, creature designer and DOP (96 minutes) prove longer than they are interesting. Plus: a critical commentary; a Japanese cut with deleted scenes; archival Making Of pieces; trailers and promos; booklet. Ian Berriman
