SECOND CHANCES

Laz Alonso is Mother’s Milk

-

Given Hughie’s relationship with Starlight, and the fact that she saved the Boys’ asses at the end of last season, has that shifted Milk’s perspective on how he views heroes at all?

Without giving too much away, Hughie does eventually persuade Mother’s Milk to be open to the idea that they’re not all the same, specifically because of how close he is with Starlight, and how sometimes it does help to have somebody on the other side, on the inside. This season, we’ll see Mother’s Milk lend an ear and consider. Last season, he did so, and it didn’t turn out too well. He tried to get Mesmer to help them out, and then Mesmer kind of ratted them out to Homelander. So he’s very hesitant about trusting supes again.

With Mother’s Milk taking a larger role in the Boys, what kind of leadership skills does he bring? How different is he from Billy?

I really don’t think Mother’s Milk wants to be a leader. He’s a reluctant leader. He wants Billy to be the leader. This is not what he signed up for. He signed up to keep things in line. I hesitate to even call him a leader, to be honest with you, because he doesn’t want that job. Under no circumstance does he want Billy’s job. “That’s what you’re here for, now do it.” Butcher is basically trying to set Mother’s Milk up to have more of a leadership role. Like, “Look man, I may not be here. Because if I get the green light, I’m going all out.” And Mother’s Milk is pushing back and saying, “No, you can’t. It’s not just about you and Becca any more. It’s all of us. You got us here. So you can’t just go Rambo! We’ve got to finish this.”
