CHILD OF GOD

Erin Moriarty is Starlight

-

How much of a double agent is Starlight this season?

We definitely pick up on her in a state that is questionable. She’s learned to develop a really good poker face and a really good façade within the Seven. She’s definitely hiding a lot more in terms of who she’s collaborating with.

Annie’s mother lied to her. Hughie has lied to her. Her whole life is basically one big lie. How is she processing that?

I think that season two is essentially Annie grappling with borderline PTSD, that a lot of people would go through when they found out the core values that they have forged their personality on, and their morals on, are stripped to their core and end up being invalid. She goes through so much in season one that influences her perception of the world and her relationships. It’s about her trying to rebuild herself afterwards. The question is whether she’ll be able to, after going through so much heartbreak and violation of her trust – to a degree that a lot of us won’t go through within our entire lifetime.

Annie gets taken prisoner this season. Can you tease a little about that story arc?

In season two, basically her entire trajectory is being caught in little acts of defiance and figuring her way out of being punished for them. But you can only do that for so long, especially when you have people like Homelander, who’s at the front of the Seven and has temper problems and ego problems, and want to make sure that they are always able to uphold the power. She’s always managing to figure out a way out of the hole she digs herself into – except towards the end, when she becomes a prisoner.
