TAWNY NEWSOME

AS THE MAVERICK ENSIGN MARINER

“The first person that we found who really clicked was Tawny. She was doing her audition and she started, in character, talking about stuff that had happened on The Next Generation. She was just ad-libbing stuff about Star

Trek. To hear somebody that’s already funny and a great actor but also clearly has an emotional relationship with Star Trek and is comfortable knowing where the line is and being able to improv in the world of Star Trek… that was our guiding light at first.”

JACK QUAID AS THE NEUROTIC ENSIGN BOIMLER

“That character could be played as a straight man, but Jack brings such an aspirational, funny emotion to this guy that just desperately wants to be the best in Starfleet.”

NOËL WELLS AS ORION MEDIC ENSIGN TENDI

“I purposely wrote an incredibly long, scientific jargon-filled paragraph for her to have to blast through in the audition. Because she’s a science officer, we knew that she’d be saying a lot of stuff. And she does it, but everything she says feels like it has sprinkles on it! There’s just some tone of, like, silver lining and joy that she injects. Her role is science, but also she’s somebody who’s dreamed of working on a Starfleet ship and now gets to. She’s kind of like the fan in the show. So there’s nothing that bums her out, and I think that comes through.”

EUGENE CORDERO AS

CYBORG ENSIGN RUTHERFORD

“I’ve been a fan of Eugene’s forever, and I love casting him as a genius because he’s so funny and so loveable. My executive producer on the show and a couple of my writers come from the world of [sketch comedy group] UCB, so we try to cast people who are really comfortable improvising, have a comedic tone, but then are also geeks that love being in Star Trek.”
