SAVILE ROW

Bold new looks.

There is little more appealing than a man in a well-fitted suit; made to measure, cutting the sharpest of silhouettes. Even in an age that sees a loosening of ‘the code’, with runways from Bottega Veneta to Lanvin bearing a suit/ sportswear synergy, tailoring remains an art form.

The master tailors of London’s Savile Row seem on board with this shift. While they preserve their skilful and precise cuts, the rules of suit-making appear less rigid than they once were. Take for example Gieves & Hawkes, the appointed tailors for Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. Tradition is an integral component of their ethos; however, with new trends arising and the creative eye of Jason Basmajian now on board, its suited style is pulling away from the exclusive realm of eveningwear and business, and into an era of everyday chic.

Its latest SS 2015 collection draws inspiration from the English coast; the changing colours of the sky and ocean, and the natural tones of the sand and rocks. Deep marine navy and crisp ocean blue lend allure

to ties, shirts and suits; driftwood-grey buttons sit stoic on Irish linen dinner jackets; and sand-coloured basics provide the neutral base for many a handsome ensemble, where quality lies rich in each stitch

Huntsman is another Savile address adopting this relaxed philosophy. Its recent SS 2015 collection is a divine blend of blue, cream and oatmeal hues, resulting in a range of suits able to see a gentleman move seamlessly from a day at Lords through to a night at the opera. Silk, linen and wool blends are light and breathable, while subtle nuances like patch pockets and half linings see classic methods take on new shapes. Indeed, paired with bare ankles and a suave smile, there is little a Huntsman suit can’t take on.
