BEHIND THE JEWELS

The creation of a bespoke piece from Jewels of the Kimberley is a process that balances artistry and precision engineering.

There is nothing as special as a piece of jewellery made for you. Whether you’re putting your own spin on a jeweller’s signature design or giving new life to a family heirloom, a bespoke or customised piece is a living artwork. Jodi Penfold and her team at Jewels of the Kimberley in Broome love nothing more than working with a client directly to create something unique.

Jewels of the Kimberley customers feel an affinity for the brand’s interpretation of the surrounding landscape. This remote region of Western Australia, where the rust-red desert meets the sea, produces some of the highestquality diamonds and South Sea pearls in the world. The land’s rich bounty is often the starting point for Jodi, her jewellers and their clients.

“As an artist, I find my best work is from my own inspiration. While we cater for complete customised commissions to suit our clients, we often personalise our collection to better suit the client more,” explains Jodi.

This might involve remaking a piece in your preferred shade of gold, changing the colour of a diamond or the size of a pearl. This flexibility means you can combine your own values and desires with the artistic flair of the jeweller.

Jodi, Jewels of the Kimberley’s founder, director and designer, has been a qualified gemmologist for 18 years. She recently spent six months in Antwerp learning the intricacies of diamond setting under some of the most highly regarded specialists in the world. Having unparalleled access to the world’s most coveted diamonds in the Kimberley gives her the opportunity to create incredible pieces, and even whole collections, using these dazzling gems.

From your first enquiry – either over the phone, online or in person – you’ll be an important part of the process. Communication is open and clear from start to finish, with detailed sketches, pricing, progress photos, manufacturing, delivery and after-sale care with a lifetime guarantee. If you happen to be in Broome, pay a visit to the studio to see your piece brought to life. Jewellers welcome guests into the workshop to share the delicate tools and procedures they use, from working with molten metal to mastering miniaturised industrial tools (and a steady hand).

A Jewels of the Kimberley piece is a forever piece, and one that is customised for you is sure to go on to become a treasure passed down for generations. jewelsofthekimberley.com.au
