Your block blanket journey continues here with the next part of our crochet-along project by Lucy Croft.

The Pick ‘n’ Mix crochet-along blanket is made up of 12 vibrant squares in total, each worked in two different colourways. You’ll find a new square pattern in each issue of Simply Crochet until the main part of the blanket is complete, followed by all the joining and border details you’ll need. Round 1 (RS) Ch3 (counts as tr), 11tr into loop, ss to top of beg ch-3 to join.
Fasten off. [12 sts] Round 2 Join Yarn D in first st, ch1 (does not count as st), 2dc in st at base of ch1, *dc in next st, spike st in loop at centre of Round 1 (counts as increase st), dc in next st, 2dc in next st; repeat from * 3 more times omitting last 2 dc, ss to first dc to join. [20 sts]
Round 3 Ch3 (counts as tr), tr in st at base of ch-3, *2tr in next st, tr in each of next 3 sts, 2tr in next st; repeat from * 3 more times omitting last 2 tr, ss to top of beg ch-3 to join. Fasten off. [28 tr]
Round 4 Join Yarn E in first st, ch1 (does not count as st), dc in st at base of ch1, *dc in next st, spike st in loop at centre of Round 1 (inc st), dc in each of next 3 sts, spike st in spike st below in Round 2 (inc st), skip next tr, dc in next 2 sts; repeat from * 3 more times omitting last dc, ss to first dc to join. [32 sts] Round 5 Ch4 (counts as tr, ch1), (tr, ch1) in each st around, ss to 3rd ch of beg ch- 4 to join. Fasten off. [32tr and 32 ch-1 sps]
Round 6 Join Yarn B in first st, ch1 (does not count as st), dc in st at base of ch1, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next tr, dc in next ch-1 sp, spike st in spike st below in Round 4, skip next tr, *(dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next tr) 3 times, dc in next ch-1 sp, spike st in spike st below in Round 4, skip next tr; repeat from * 6 more times, dc in next ch-1 sp, dc in next tr, dc in next ch-1 sp, ss to first dc to join.
Fasten off. [64 sts] Round 7 Join Yarn G in first st, ch1 (does not count as st), dc in st at base of ch1, *dc in next 8 sts, ch2, skip next 3 sts, (dtr, ch2) 3 times in next st, skip next 3 sts, dc in next st; repeat from * 3 more times omitting last dc, ss to first dc to join. Fasten off. [9 dc, 4 ch-2 sps, 3 dtr in each repeat]
Round 8 Join Yarn D in first st, ch1 (does not count as st), spike st in st in Round 6 below first st, *(ch1, skip next st, spike st in st in Round 6 below next st) 4 times, ch2, skip ch-2 sp, dc in next dtr, ch2, skip ch-2 sp, 2dc in next dtr, ch2, skip ch-2 sp, dc in next dtr, ch2, skip ch-2 sp, spike st in st in Round 6 below next st; repeat from * 3 more times, omitting last spike st, ss to first spike st to join. [9 sts, 4 ch-1 sps, 4 ch-2 sps per repeat]
Round 9 Ch3 (counts as tr), *(ch1, skip next ch-1 sp, tr in next spike st) 4 times, (ch2, skip next ch-2 sp, tr in next st) twice, ch4, (tr in next st, ch2, skip next ch-2 sp) twice, tr in next spike st; repeat from * 3 more times omitting last tr, ss to top of beg ch-3 to join.
