CHILD’S GRANNY PONCHO

Use classic granny trebles to create a simple poncho for kids. Designed by Marianne Dekkers-Roos.

Designer Marianne says: “My very first piece of crochet was a poncho in pink, green and off-white, which I made when I was nine years old. Both my mum and I vividly remember me crocheting it, as well as the poncho itself – even though it’s been missing for many years (and we have no idea where it is). Ever since I started crocheting again in 2010, my thoughts have gone back to this first project, and for years I’ve wanted to re- create it.

“Nostalgic, I know, but crocheting my childhood poncho again, knowing sweet Sem would model it for me, made this new poncho feel extra special. After the shoot, Sem asked me to teach her to crochet!” NOTES The basis of the pattern is the Granny Square Neckline, so it is fairly easy to adjust the sizing. You can make a smaller or bigger Poncho by either omitting or adding rounds of 3-tr groups to the Granny Square, or even increasing or decreasing the number of Granny Squares needed.
