STORYLAND AMIS

-

Crochet blogger Holly Salzman told us: “My family has always been crafty so I guess it’s in my blood. It was my older sister who got me interested in fiber arts. I took two or three crochet lessons from her before I took off. I fell in love right away, and unlike the other crafts I’d learned, this became a passion, not just a hobby. I’m able to combine my love for crafts with my love for designing and I never get tired of turning my ideas into cute little (or big) amis!

“I exclusively make amigurumi, selling my patterns and occasionally ready-made items. I try to stay true to the original Japanese style which is a large head and small body, (and usually small arms and legs), along with the face/muzzle right between the eyes. It’s always been my favourite style and that’s why I’m always inspired by the work of All About Ami, Amigurumei, and others who create in that style. I think of an animal, think about how it can be made cuter, draw a sketch, and there you go! My maker friends and followers help push me forward with their encouragement and suggestions (and their own darling creations). I don’t know what I’d do without the crochet community!

“Every time I create something new that’s my most favourite make. But I think my biggest crochet triumph would have to be my giant sloth. He was quite the experience and I’ve never regretted spending the time and money it took to make him.”
