Make a statement with a comic hairband, designed by Emma Friedlander- Collins. Yarn and Colors Must-Have Minis (100% cotton, 10g/25m), 1 ball of each: Yarn A Sunglow (013), Yarn B Pepper (032) Yarn C Blue Lake (066), Yarn D White (001) A 2.75mm (US C/2) hook Black felt Needle and thread Alice band Stitch markers

Half double treble (hdtr) Yrh twice, insert hook in stitch and pull through, yrh and draw through 3 loops on hook, yrh and draw through 2 loops

NOTES

All the letters and the base are made separately, sewn tog and then attached to an Alice band to create the fascinator. See the Charts on p93 for the letters.

LETTER B

Using Yarn A, ch12.

Row 1 (RS) Tr in fourth ch from hook and in each ch to end, turn. [10 tr]

Row 2 Ss in next 2 sts, ch6, ss in next 4 sts, ch5, ss in next 3 sts, turn.

Row 3 6tr in ch-5 sp, 7tr in ch- 6 sp, ss into top of last tr from Row 1. Fasten off.

Round 4 Join Yarn B with RS facing in base of beg ch-3 of Row 1, ch1 (does not count as st), (dc, ch1, dc) in same ch, 2dc around post of beg ch-3, dc in next tr, 2dc in each of next 3 tr, dc in next tr, dc2tog over next 2 tr, dc in next tr, 2dc in each of next 3 tr, dc in each of next 2 sts, 2dc around post of tr, (dc, ch1, dc) in corner, dc in each ch along the opposite side of the foundation ch to end, ss to first dc. Using Yarn A, ch20, ss to first ch to join into a ring, being careful not to twist.

Round 2 Join Yarn B with RS facing in first st, ch1 (does not count as st), 2dc in same st, *2dc in next st, dc in next st, 2dc in next st, dc in next st, 2dc in next 2 sts, dc in next 7 sts, 2dc in next st; rep from * omitting last 2 dc, ss to first dc. LETTER M

Using Yarn A, ch32.

DOT

Using Yarn A make a magic loop.

Round 1 Ch1 (does not count as st), 8dc into loop, ss to first dc. Fasten off.

Round 2 Join Yarn B in any st, ch1 (does not count as st), 2dc in each st around, ss to first dc. Fasten off.

BASE

Using Yarn C, ch23.

TO MAKE UP

Using a yarn needle, sew BOOM letters to base, overlapping them and using the image as a guide. Using a needle and thread, sew base to black felt, and trim to create a shadow around the edge. Stick to an Alice band with strong glue.
