MEASUREMENTS Lips measure 9x5cm (3 x2in) NOTES

Top lip is made first, then the space underneath is filled with Teeth, Tongue and Black for mouth. The Bottom Lip is then added. Top stitching helps to delineate and give a graphic look.

Using Yarn A ch27.

Row 1 (WS) Ss in 2nd ch from hook, dc2tog (working into next 2 ch), dc in each of next 6 ch, 2dc in next ch, dc in next 6 ch, 2dc in next dc, dc in next 6 ch, dc2tog, ss in last ch, turn.

Row 2 (RS) Skip ss and next st, htr in next 2 dc, tr in next 3 dc, dtr in next 2 dc, 2dtr in next dc, dtr in next dc, tr in next dc, ch1, dc in next 2 dc, ch1, tr in next dc, dtr in next dc, 2dtr in next dc, dtr in next 2 dc, tr in next 3 dc, htr in next 2 dc, skip dc2tog and ss, ss in turning ch of starting ch. Fasten off.

TEETH

Rotate Top Lip to work into opposite side of starting ch.

Row 1 (WS) With WS facing, join Yarn C in 7th ch of starting chain, ch1 (does not count as st), dc in st at base of ch1, htr in next ch, tr in next ch, tr2tog, dtr in next 4 ch, tr2tog, tr in next ch, htr in next ch, dc in next ch, turn, leaving rem sts unworked. Fasten off.

BLACK

Row 1 (RS) With RS facing, join Yarn B in first ch of starting ch with a ss (opposite first ss of Row 1), ss in each of next 2 ch, dc in next ch, htr in next ch, tr in next ch, ch1, (working across White stitches) dc in next 12 sts, ch1, (cont working into rem sts of starting chain) tr in next ch, htr in next ch, dc in next ch, ss in next 3 ch.

Fasten off leaving a long tail.

TONGUE

Row 1 (RS) With RS facing, join Yarn D in second dc after the ch-1 of Black row, dc in next 2 dc, htr in next 4 dc, dc in next 2 dc, ss in next dc. Fasten off.

BOTTOM LIP

Row 1 (RS) With RS facing, join Yarn A in the back loop only of first ss of Black row), dc in back loop only of next 2 ss, ch1, tr in next 20 sts working across all Black and Lollipop sts, ch1, dc in back loop only of

next 2 ss, ss in last ss. Fasten off.

Row 2 (RS) With RS facing, rejoin Yarn A in first tr of previous Row, dc in next tr, htr in next tr, tr in next tr, 2tr in next tr, tr in next 10 tr, 2tr in next tr, tr in next tr, htr in next tr, dc in next tr, ss in last tr. Fasten off.

TO FINISH

Weave in all ends on WS except Black. Thread Black tail on a needle and st around join between Top Lip and Teeth and Bottom Lip and Tongue to delineate the colours. Also using the Black, stitch across the bottom of the White, where it meets the Black, to smooth off any points in the st which may make your mouth look as if it has pointed fangs! Weave in ends on WS. Top stitch some White onto the lips for lipstick shine, using the image as a guide. To stiffen, cut interfacing and black felt to the same shape as the lips. Iron interfacing on WS of crocheted lips to stiffen motif, then attach black felt or use glue. Join the chains to the top of the lips using jump rings. Join the lobster clasp to the opposite end of the chains using the rem jump rings.
