Who: Emma Wright What: Brit fashion graduate

You should know: Emma came to our attention in 2014 when she launched her crocheted and knitted graduate fashion collection, Everything Stops for Tea. But her love of yarn crafts started far earlier. “At 16 I went to college to study fashion, and we did a textile project which focused on hand knit and crochet,” she says. “I was fascinated with the idea of crochet and immediately took to YouTube at home.”

Emma was soon ready to start creating her own patterns. “My head is full of ideas for shape, stitch and structure. I love to apply this to crochet, crochet is very free and allows you to be unique and innovative. Designing my own crochet patterns came naturally to me.”

She still has a soft spot for her graduate collection from 2014. “Made up of six crocheted and hand knit outfits, it was inspired by my home county of Yorkshire, British wool and feminine stereotypes,” she says. The showstopper in the collection was an oversized dress made purely from British wool crochet flowers.” After spending hours sewing it together, seeing it come down the catwalk to Arctic Monkeys’ ‘Mardy Bum’ was overwhelming and emotional!”

Emma is buzzing about her upcoming adventures. “I have so many exciting designs on the go, but at the moment I can’t share any of them! I hate having to keep projects secret but the reveal is always so much fun.”
