PEG BOARD BASKETS
Liven up your peg board with these fab hanging baskets. Make as many as you need, for stationery and haberdashery alike. Designed by Sara Huntington.
■ DMC Woolly (100% merino wool, 50g/125m), 1 ball of each:
Yarn A Light Blue (073)
Yarn B Mustard (091)

A 3mm (US C2 or D/3) hook
3 plastic curtain rings, 2cm diameter 3 circles of stiff felt or card, 7cm diameter
TENSION
23 sts and 28 rows to measure 10 x10cm (4x4in) in dc worked in the round
MEASUREMENTS
Each Basket measures 7cm (2 in) diameter and 9cm (3 in) tall

Spike st Dc into the st in the indicated row directly below the next st
NOTES
Each Basket is worked in the round from the bottom up and has a separate lining. At the beginning of each round, ch1 (not counted as a st throughout), then work first dc in the st at base of beginning ch-1.
BASKET EXTERIOR
GREY AND LIGHT BLUE BASKETS
Using Yarn D, make a magic loop.
Round 1 (RS) 6dc into the loop, ss to first dc to join. [6 sts]
Round 2 Ch1, (does not count as st here and throughout), 2dc in each st around, ss to first dc. [12 sts]
Round 3 Ch1, 2dc in st at base of beg ch-1, dc in next st, (2dc in next st, dc in next st) to end, ss to first dc. [18 sts]
Round 4 Ch1, 2dc in st at base of beg ch-1, dc in each of next 2 sts, (2dc in next st, dc in each of next 2 sts) to end, ss to first dc. [24 sts]
Round 5 Ch1, 2dc in st at base of beg ch-1, dc in each of next 3 sts, (2dc in next st, dc in each of next 3 sts) to end, ss to first dc. [30 sts]
Round 6 Ch1, 2dc in st at base of beg ch-1, dc in each of next 4 sts, (2dc in next st, dc in each of next 4 sts) to end, ss to first dc. [36 sts]
Round 7 Ch1, 2dc in st at base of beg ch-1, dc in each of next 5 sts, (2dc in next st, dc in each of next 5 sts) to end, ss to first dc. [42 sts]
Round 8 Ch1, 2dc in st at base of beg ch-1, dc in each of next 6 sts, (2dc in next st, dc in each of next 6 sts) to end, ss to first dc. [48 sts]
Round 9 Ch1, dcbl in st at base of beg ch-1, dcbl in each st around, ss to first dc.
Rounds 10-11 Ch1, dc in st at base of beg ch-1, dc in each st around, ss to first dc, changing to Yarn E or A on yrh of last ss.
Rounds 12-17 Ch1, dc in st at base of beg ch-1, dc in each st around, ss to first dc, changing to Yarn C at end of Round 17, on yrh of ss.
Round 18 Ch1, spike st 1 row below, *spike st 2 rows below, spike st 3 rows below, spike st 4 rows below, spike st 3 rows below, spike st 2 row below, spike st 1 row below; repeat from * to end, omitting last spike st 1 row below, ss to first dc.
Rounds 19-24 Repeat Rounds 12-17, changing to Yarn E or Yarn A on yrh of last ss.
Round 25 Ch1, spike st 4 rows below, *spike st 3 rows below, spike st 2 rows below, spike st 1 row below, spike st 2 rows below, spike st 3 rows below, spike st 4 rows below; repeat from * to end, omitting last spike st 4 rows below, ss to first st.
Rounds 26-31 Repeat Rounds 12-17 changing to Yarn C on yrh of last ss.
Round 32 Repeat Round 18, changing to Yarn D on yrh of ss.
Rounds 33-35 Repeat Rounds 10-11.
Fasten off and weave in ends. MUSTARD BASKET Work as given for Grey and Light Blue Basket, using Yarn B in place of Yarns E or A, with the following changes:
Round 18 Ch1, dc in st at base of beg ch-1, *spike st 1 row below, spike st 2 rows below, spike st 3 rows below, spike st 4 rows below, spike st 5 rows below, dc in next st; repeat from * to end, omitting last dc. Round 25 Repeat Round 18.
Round 32 Repeat Round 18. Fasten off and weave in ends.
BASKET LINING INTERIOR
Using a colour of your choice, work as given for basket exterior to the end of Round 9.
Rounds 10-32 Ch1, dc in each st around, ss to first dc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
TO MAKE UP
Insert the circle of felt or card in the bottom of the exterior pot. Turn the interior inside out and put inside the exterior so that the RS is visible. Rejoin Yarn D with a ss to the top edge of the exterior pot. Line up stitches on both edges and work through each of the next 32 corresponding sts with a ss.
Now place the plastic ring adjacent to the next 4 sts and dc through both sets of stitches and over the ring, dc around the ring until it is completely covered by crochet, ss into final 12 corresponding sts of the baskets.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
