A small amount of thick felt (enough to back each coaster)

25 sts and 25 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over dc

NOTES
Always change colour on the last yrh of the previous st.
COASTER
Make one in each colourway.
Using Yarn A, make a magic loop.
Round 1 (RS) 2dc in Yarn A, 2dc in Yarn B, 2dc in Yarn C, ss to first dc to join, turn. [6 dc]
Round 2 Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), 2dc in each of next 2 sts in Yarn C, 2dc in each of next 2 sts in Yarn B, 2dc in each of next 2 sts in Yarn A, ss to first dc, turn. [12 dc]
Round 3 Ch1, (dc in next st, 2dc in next st) twice in Yarn A, (dc in next st, 2dc in next st) twice in Yarn B, (dc in next st, 2dc in next st) twice in Yarn C, ss to first dc, turn. [18 dc]

STAR POINTS
You will now work back and forth in rows for each star point.
Row 1 Ch1, dc in each of next 9 sts, turn. [9 dc]
Row 2 Ch1, skip next st, dc in each of next 7 sts, ss in last st, turn. [7 dc]
Row 3 Ch1, skip ss, dc in each of next 7 sts, turn.
Row 4 Ch1, skip next st, dc in each of next 5 sts, ss in last st, turn. [5 dc]
Row 5 Ch1, skip ss, dc in each of next 5 sts, turn.
Row 6 Ch1, skip next st, dc in each of next 3 sts, ss in last st, turn. [3 dc]
Row 7 Ch1, skip ss, dc in each of next 3 sts, turn.
Row 8 Ch1, skip next st, dc in each next st, ss in last st, turn. [1 dc]
Row 9 Ch1, skip ss, dc in next st.
Fasten off.
Rejoin Yarn A with a ss in next dc at base of star point and repeat Rows 1-9. Repeat Rows 1-9 for each star point, working the next 2 points in Yarn B and the last 2 points in Yarn C.
TO FINISH
Block coaster lightly by spraying with water, pinning flat and leaving to dry. Weave in ends. Trace around the coaster on a piece of thick felt and carefully cut out the shape. Either glue or sew coaster to felt backing – leave to dry for 24 hours if using glue.
