Eleanora’s wave cushion is a great first project for you to dip your toe into colourwork if you haven’t tried it before. With its seaside theme colours, it will look stunning in a conservato­ry or summer house – or simply imagine that’s where you are right now…

NOTES

The Cushion Front and Back are worked in dc using Yarn A and B as indicated on the Chart. On the Chart (see p93), each square represents 1 dc stitch. Read all RS rows from right to left, and WS rows from left to right. When changing colour mid-row, twist the ends of the two colours together, pick up the new colour in the last yrh of the previous stitch. Carry the unused strands of yarn across the WS of the work.

Once both pieces have been made and blocked they are crocheted together over the cushion pad.

FRONT AND BACK BOTH ALIKE

With Yarn A and a 5mm hook, ch61.

Row 1 (RS) Dc in second ch from hook and in each ch to end, turn. [60 sts]

Row 2 Ch1 (doesn’t count as st throughout), dc in each st to end, turn.

Rows 3-64 Ch 1, dc in each st across, following the Chart for colour changes.

Fasten off, weave in ends and block both pieces.

CUSHION EDGE

With Yarn C and a 5mm hook, join yarn in corner, work through both layers held WS together.

Row 1 Ch1, *3dc into corner, 62dc evenly along side; repeat from * two more times, insert the cushion pad, 3dc in corner, 62 dc up last side to close, ss to first st to join. Change to a 4.5mm hook.

Row 2 Ch1, reverse dc in each st around, fasten off and weave in ends.
