TABLE RUNNER

Keep summer bright whatever the weather, with Kate Bruning’s beautiful botanical table runner.

Set the table in style this summer by hooking up Kate’s botanical table runner, using chartreuse as a base and accenting it with an array of complementary colours, from lemon to aventurine. A stand-out statement for your dining table.

NOTES

The Table Runner is constructed with 3 Squares across and 11 Squares long. Each Square is worked right side facing. There are three groups of colours to use, each Square will be made with one group. Make 11 Squares of each colour group referring to the Colour Grouping Table (right).

SQUARE MOTIF (MAKE 33)

Using Yarn A ch6, ss into first ch to make a ring.

Round 1 Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), 12dc into the ring, ss to beg ch to join. [12 sts]

Round 2 Ch4 (counts as dtr), 2dtr into base of ch4, (ch1, skip 1, 3dtr in next st) 5 times, ch1, skip last st, ss to top of beg ch4, fasten off. [18 sts]

Join Yarn B to the first st of any 3dtr.

Round 3 Ch1, *dc in next st, 2dc in next st, dc in next st, dtr into unworked st from Round 1; repeat from * 5 more times, ss to first dc, fasten off. [30 sts]

Round 4 Join Yarn around the post of the first st of 3dtr from Round 2, yrh and bring up the loop, ch4 (this counts as first dtr of 3FPdtrtog), continue the 3FPdtrtog over the next 2 dtr, ch8, (3FPdtrtog next 3dtrs of Round 2, ch 8) 5 times, ss to first st to join,

fasten off. [6 3FPdtrtog, 6 ch8]

Round 5 Join Yarn B to any ch-8 sp, *4dc into same sp, FPdtr in dtr from Round 3, 4dc into same sp, ch1; repeat from * 5 more times, fasten off. [54 sts]

Round 6 Working in bl only, join Yarn C to any FPdtr from Round 5, *(ss, ch2, bobble, ch2, ss) in FPdtr, ss in next 4 sts, ch2, skip 1 st, ss in next 4 sts; repeat from * 5 more times, fasten off. [60 ss, 6 bobbles]

Round 7 Join Yarn D to the top of any bobble, *ch1, dc in same sp, tr in fl of 4dc from Round 5, 2tr in ch-2 sp, tr in fl of 4 dc from Round 5; repeat from * 5 more times, ss in to first dc. [66 sts]

Round 8 Ch1, (dc in next 10 sts, 2dc in next st) 6 times, ss to first dc to join. [72 sts]

Round 9 Ch4 (counts as first dtr on dtrpc), *(dtrpc, ch4, dtrpc) into same space, ch7, skip 7 sts, dc in next 3 sts, ch7, skip 7; repeat from * 3 more times, ss back to first dtrpc, fasten off. [8 dtrpc, 12 dc] TO MAKE UP

Take 2 Squares, RS facing, and join Yard D into a ch-4 corner space on both Squares. Working through the sts of both Squares, ch1, 3dc into same sp, 7dc into ch-7 sp, dc in fl of next 3 sts, 7dc into next ch-7 sp, 3dc into ch-4 corner space, pick up next Square and continue to join in the same way. Once all the Squares are connected join Yarn D into a corner sp.

Round 1 Work a simple border, 3dc into each corner space, 7 dc in each ch-7 sp, dc in all dc sts, 3dc in the corner spaces of individual Squares, fasten off.

Weave in all ends and block to measurements.
