BRUGES LACE HEADBAND

Try out your new Bruges crochet skills and make this vintage-inspired lacy hairband by Becky Skuse.

-

Designer Becky Skuse says: “Take your first steps in Bruges crochet by making this simple lacy hairband. It uses just two Bruges lengths or tapes and a 4ply cotton yarn for a modern vintage look. The lace effect comes from varying the number of stitches on each row of the tape, while the chain loops down the sides create a delicate edging. We used lengths of silky ribbon to form the ties that go under your hair, but you could easily crochet the ties instead if you prefer.”

NOTES

To begin, make one tape of lace, then make a second tape and join it to the first as you go. Tape 2 will be connected in the ch-6 loops along one side of Tape 1, working up to the next ch-6 sp on alternate rows.

TO FINISH

Knot the starting tails together from both Tapes to join them, creating a ch-3 sp from the unworked ch3 from Row 1 of Tape 2. Weave in all ends.

Take one piece of ribbon and insert from RS to WS through the ch-3 strand. Fold over the end of the ribbon and sew in place. Repeat this for the other side.
