TASSEL CHARM
Once you’ve made one of these beauties, you’ll be hooking up more to hang them from everything. By Emma Leith.
■ DMC Natura Medium (100% cotton, 50g/75m), small amounts of each: Vanilla (03), Orange Tree (109), Emerald (138), Amethyst (06), Buttercup (99), Super Red (55)
A 3.5mm (US E/4) hook
A small amount of polyester stuffing Wooden bead (available at www.spoiltrottenbeads.co.uk)
MEASUREMENTS
Each Charm measures 5cm (2in) diameter
ABBREVIATIONS
Spiked dc Insert hook into st specified, yrh, pull up the loop to height of current round, yrh, pull through all loops on hook
WHEEL MOTIF MAKE 2
Using any colour except Vanilla, ch6, join with a ss into first ch to form loop. Round 1 Ch3 (counts as tr), 11tr into loop, ss into beg ch-3 to join. [12 sts]
Fasten off.
Round 2 Join Vanilla in any st, ch2 (counts as htr throughout), htr in same st, 2htr in each st around, ss into beg ch-2 to join. [24 sts]
Fasten off.
Round 3 Join any colour except Vanilla in any st, ch1 (does not count as st), *dc in next st of Round 2, spiked dc in next st of Round 1, skip next st on Round 2; repeat from * around, ss into first dc to join.
Fasten off.
Round 4 Join Vanilla in any st, ch2, htr into same st, *htr into next 2 sts, 2htr into next st; repeat from * around, ss into beg ch2 to join. [32 htr]
Fasten off.
Round 5 Surface chain stitch in any colour except Vanilla around Round 3.
TO MAKE UP
Place two Motifs with WS facing each other and work the following through the stitches on both Motifs.
Round 1 Join Vanilla in any st, ch1, (dc in next 3 st, 2dc in next st) 6 times, stuff with polyester filling, (dc into next 3 sts, 2dc into next st) 2 times, ss in beg ch-1 to join. [40 sts]
Fasten off.
Make a tassel using strands approx 14cm long from each colour yarn. Lay a length of yarn across the centre of the group of strands, fold the strands in half with the yarn around the centre and thread a bead to sit on top of the tassel. Use ends of thread to attach to Wheel. Bind the tassel with a piece of Vanilla approx 1cm from the head of the tassel. On the opposite side of the Wheel to the tassel join Vanilla, ch5.
Fasten off leaving a long tail. Tie the tail so that you can hang your Charm.
