We challenged two designers to come up with a fab slipper design, each using the same yarn… which is your fave?

MOCCASIN SLIPPERS

Designed by Magdalene Lee, this pretty pair will be a joy to wear on duvet days.

NOTES

The Sole of the Slipper is created first, working from the heel to the toe. The Body is then crocheted up from the Sole. Finally the Top is crocheted separately and joined to the Body.

MOCCASIN SLIPPER

SOLE MAKE 2

Using Yarn A, ch7 (8: 9).

Row 1 (RS) Dc in second ch from hook and in each ch to end, turn. [6 (7: 8) sts]

Rows 2-5 Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), dc in each st to end, turn.

Row 6 (WS) Ch1, 2dc in first st, dc in each st to last st, 2dc in last st, turn. [8 (9: 10) sts]

Row 7 Ch1, dc in each st to end, turn. Repeat Row 7 another 6 (7: 8) times.

Next row Repeat Row 6. [10 (11: 12) sts] Repeat Row 7 another 10 (12: 14) times.

Next row Ch1, dc2tog, dc in each st to last 2 sts, dc2tog, turn. [8 (9: 10) sts]

Next row Repeat Row 7.

Next row Ch1, dc2tog, dc in each st to last 2 sts, dc2tog, turn. [6 (7: 8) sts] Repeat Row 7 another 2 times, only turn at the end of the last row if working Medium size.

Working around the Sole:

Round 1 (RS) Ch1, dc in each of 29 (32: 35) row ends st, place st marker in the 13th st across, dc in each st at base of Row 1, dc in each of 29 (32: 35) row ends, dc in each of 6(7: 8) sts across, ss to first dc to join. [70 (78: 86) sts]

Fasten off and weave in ends.

BODY

With RS of the Sole facing, join Yarn B into the marked st.

Round 1 (RS) (Working in bl only) Ch1, dc in marked st, dc in next 15 (18: 21) sts, *(dc2tog) dc next 4 (5: 6) sts, (dc2tog)**, dc in next 27 (30: 33) sts; repeat from * to **, dc in next 11 sts, ss to first dc to join. [66 (74: 82) dc]

Round 2 Ch1, dc in each st to end, ss to first dc to join.

Round 3 Ch1, dc in first 2 (4: 7) sts, *(dc2tog, dc next 3 sts) twice, (dc2tog), dc in next 10

Row 6 Ch1, reverse dc into each st from last row. [21 (29: 37) sts]

TOP OF SLIPPER

With Yarn B, ch8.

Row 1 (RS) Dc in second ch from hook, dc in each ch across, turn. [7 sts]

Row 2 Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), dc in each st to end, turn.

Row 3 Ch1, dc first 3 sts, change to Yarn C, 4-puff in next st, change to Yarn B, dc in last 3 sts, turn. [6 dc, 1 4-puff]

Row 4 Ch1, 2dc in first st, dc in next 5 sts, 2dc in last st, turn. [9 sts]

Row 5 Ch1, dc in first 2 sts, change to Yarn A, 2-puff, change to Yarn B, dc in next 3 sts, change to Yarn A, 2-puff, change to Yarn B, dc last 2 sts, turn. [2 2-puff, 7 dc]

Row 6 Ch1, 2dc in first st, dc in next 7 sts, 2dc in last st, turn. [11 sts]

Row 7 Ch1, (dc next 2 sts, change to Yarn C, 4-puff, change to Yarn B) 3 times, dc last 2 sts, turn. [8 dc, 3 4-puff]

Row 8 Repeat Row 2.

Row 9 Ch1, (dc in next 3 sts, change to Yarn A, 2-puff, change to Yarn B) 2 times, dc next 3 sts, turn. [9 dc, 2 2-puff]

Row 10 Repeat Row 2.

Row 11 Ch1, dc first 5 sts, change to Yarn C, 4-puff, change to Yarn B, dc in next 5 sts, do not turn. [10 dc, 1 4-puff]

Work around the Top of Slipper.

Next round Ch1, dc in each row end, (place st marker in first dc), dc in each st at base foundation ch, dc in each row end, dc in each st of Row 11, ss to first dc to join. [40 dc]

Fasten off.

TO FINISH

Pin the Top of Slipper to the Body, over the unworked sts from Round 4 of the Body. Join Yarn B into the marked st from the Top of Slipper. Working through sts from Round 4 of the Body and last round of the Top of Slipper, ss in next 29 sts.

Using Yarn C, whipstitch around the ss join. You can use the image as a guide.
