■ DROPS Cotton Merino Uni Colour (50% wool, 50% cotton, 50g/110m), 1 ball of each: Mustard Yellow (15), Forest Green (11), Powder Pink (05), Red (06)

■ A 3.5mm (US E/4) hook

■ A square purse frame, 8.5x5.5cm including

ABBREVIATI­ONS

beg pc (beginning popcorn) Ch3 (counts as tr), 4tr into same st or sp at base of beg ch-3, drop the loop from the hook, insert the hook from front to back in top of beg ch-3, replace the dropped loop onto hook and pull through the st on hook pc (popcorn stitch) Work 5tr in the same st or sp, drop the loop from the hook, insert the hook from front to back in the top of first tr worked, put the dropped stitch back onto hook and pull through the first tr

NOTES

Purse is worked in the round, then worked in short rows for the top. Instructio­ns for a Forest Green Purse are written below. To make a Mustard Yellow Purse, use the sequence Forest Green, Mustard Yellow, Powder Pink, Red, Mustard Yellow.

PURSE

BACK/FRONT (MAKE 2)

With Mustard Yellow, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch3 (counts as htr, ch1), (htr into loop, ch1) 5 times, ss in second ch of beg ch-3 to join. [6 htr, 6 ch-1 sps]

Fasten off.

Round 2 Join Powder Pink with ss in any ch-1 sp, beg pc in same sp, ch2, (pc in next ch-1 sp, ch2) 5 times, ss to top of beg pc. [6 pc, 6 ch-2 sps]

Fasten off.

Round 3 Join Red with ss to any ch-2 sp, (beg pc, ch3, pc, ch3) all in same ch-2 sp, (pc, ch3) twice in next 5 ch-2 sps, ss to top of beg pc. [12 pc, 12 ch-3 sps]

Fasten off.

Round 4 Join Mustard Yellow with ss to any ch-3 sp, (beg pc, ch2, pc, ch2) all in same ch-2 sp, (pc, ch2) twice in next 11 ch-3 sps, ss to top of beg pc. [24 pc, 24 ch-2 sps]

Fasten off.

Round 5 Join Forest Green with ss in any ch-2 sp, ch3 (counts as tr), 2tr in same ch-2 sp, (3tr in next ch-2 sp) 23 times, ss to top of beg ch-3. [72 tr]

Round 6 Ch1 (does not count as st here and throughout), dc in bl of next 57 sts, dc in both loops of next 15 sts, ss to first dc, turn. [72 dc] Now work in rows for the top of the Purse.

Row 1 (WS) Ch1, skip ss, dc in first st, dc in next 14 sts, turn and work on these sts only. [15 dc]

Row 2 Ch1, dc in first st, skip next st, dc in next 11 sts, skip next st, dc in last st, turn. [13 dc]

Row 3 Ch1, dc in each st to end. [13 dc]

Fasten off.

TO MAKE UP

Hold both pieces with RS together. Working through back loops of both circles, using matching yarn, ss to first st of Round 6, dc in next 57 sts. Turn RS out.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Sew purse frame to top of each circle.
