TUMMY STRAP

Make your strap the size needed for your dog. Measure around the tummy of your dog; our dog measures 62cm. Take off the width of your coat; ours measures 36cm. The remaining measurement (26cm) is the minimum length you need to make your tummy strap. Using Saltaire, make a chain the length you need for your strap, leaving a long tail.

Row 1 Ch3 (counts as tr), tr in fourth ch from hook and in each ch to end.

Fasten off and weave in end tails only.

Use the long starting tail to sew strap to the centre of one long side of the coat. Sew a button to the centre of the opposite long side of the coat.

FRONT STRAP

Place the coat on the dog and fasten the tummy strap. Measure around the front of the dog, from the corner of the coat on one side around the front neck to the edge of the coat on the other side. This is the length you need to make your front strap. For our dog, this was 12cm.

Using Saltaire, make a strap this length as before. Use the long starting tail to sew this strap to the front corner. Sew the second button in position on the opposite corner to the Front Strap.

Weave in any remaining ends.
