Your friends won’t believe you made this stunning poncho, but what they really wouldn’t believe is how easy it is. Sequin yarn self-embellishe­s as you work, while the rectangula­r shape is deceptivel­y easy.

NOTES

The Poncho is worked in two rectangle pieces, which are seamed together along the top and sides leaving openings for the neck and arms. One size fits all, however you can change the length of the Poncho by working more or less rows on each Panel.

FRONT / BACK PANEL MAKE 2

Using a 4mm hook and Capri, ch206.

Row 1 (RS) Tr in sixth ch from hook (skipped ch count as [tr, skip 1 ch, ch1]), (skip 1 ch, ch1, tr in next st) to end, turn. [102 tr, 101 ch-1 sps]

Row 2 (WS) Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), skip first ch-1 sp, dtr in next ch-1 sp, dtr in skipped ch-1 sp (working behind the previous dtr), *dtr in next empty ch-1 sp, dtr in previous (already worked) ch-1 sp working behind existing dtr; rep from * to last st, tr in last st, turn.

Row 3 Ch3, tr in st at base of ch-3, tr in each st across, turn. [203 tr]

Row 4 Ch3, skip 2 sts, dtr in next st, dtr in first skipped st, *skip next st, dtr in next st, dtr in (already worked) st before skipped st; rep from * to final st, tr in final st, turn. [100 pairs of

Row 5 Ch4 (counts as tr, ch1) tr in first dtr, (ch1, skip 1 st, tr in next st) to end, turn. [102 tr, 101 ch-1 sps]

Repeat Rows 2-5 until Panel measures 58cm, ending on a Row 3 repeat.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

TO MAKE UP

Align rectangles RS together and sew together across the final row, leaving a central gap of approx 23cm for the neck opening. Sew down both sides, leaving a gap of approx 28cm at the top on each side for the arm openings. Weave in any remaining ends.
