MEASUREMENTS

Width of scarf needs to be greater than the width of your shoulders Half the length of your scarf will equal the approx length of your finished Scarfdigan

ABBREVIATIONS

htr-hump st Work as standard htr, inserting hook into the loop that sits at the back of each htr st

For a full list, see page 90

Designer Emma has dubbed this make a ‘scarfdigan’, as it’s a cardigan created from an upcycled scarf! As long as the scarf you have is at least as wide as your shoulders, pretty much any length will work.

NOTES

This pattern is designed as a guide only and needs to be adapted to your measurements and the scarf you are using.

Make the Sleeves, Cuffs and Pockets first, then cut the scarf to size before joining all pieces together. There are step-by-step images which you should use as reference when making up your Scarfdigan.

TO MAKE UP

01 Fold the scarf in half widthways, and then in half again lengthways. Using sharp scissors, cut along the fold line until you reach the top. Make sure you only cut through one layer. This cut will split the left and right sides of the front.

02 Use your Sleeve as a cutting guide by lining it up with the top of the folded scarf. Where the bottom of the Sleeve sits is where you want to cut a curved line all the way to the bottom of the scarf. Make sure you cut through all the layers. Open out the scarf, sew the side seams together and hem the cut edge of the opening. You can use a sewing machine to do this or do it by hand.

03 Using Yarn B and a yarn needle, sew the Sleeve to the body with a backstitch or running stitch. To finish, sew pockets to the front of your Scarfdigan and weave in any remaining ends.
