GEO CUSHION DUO

Hook a casual cushion and its supersized big sister with Esme Crick’s geometric duo

-

Handmade? Your friends will never believe it, such is the professional polish of this geometric pair. The ombre is more pronounced in the larger cushion. If you want a more dramatic effect in the smaller one, unravel the yarn a little between rows.

NOTES

This pattern uses mosaic crochet techniques, where you work in two contrasting colours, referred to as Yarn A and Yarn B in this pattern. Alternating 2-row stripes of double crochet form the base of the pattern. Where the contrasting colour needs to interrupt the base colour in a row, a ch-sp is created in the base colour. When the base colour changes for the next 2-row stripe, the new base colour is used to ‘fill in’ the spaces left in the previous rows, by working mosaic treble sts in front of the ch-sps and into the skipped sts 3 rows below.

The instructions for the Floor Cushion are written first, with the instructions for the Small Cushion written in coloured brackets.

CHART NOTES

There is a Chart on the opposite page which you will need to refer to for all colour changes. RS rows are read from right to left, and WS rows from left to right. Each square represents 1dc stitch and each rectangle represents 1mtr. If an mtr is shown in a row worked in the opposite colour skip this st and ch the number of sts skipped plus 1. For example if 3mtr are show you would skip 3 sts and ch4.

Where a dc or a tr is made in the first row of a new colour, a dc is made in this st in the second row (make sure to work into all tr sts from the first row as they can easily be missed). Where a ch-sp is made in the first row, the same ch-sp is made in the second row.

The first 4 rows of the Chart have been written out to guide you.

TO MAKE UP

With WS facing, fold in and iron a seam of 2cm around all 4 sides of fabric backing (to make backing same dimensions as cushion pad). Lay the fabric square on flat surface, with WS and folded-in edges facing up, place crochet panel on top with RS facing up. Pin together around 3 sides and carefully sew edges together (approx 2mm from outside edge). Insert cushion pad and sew up final side in same way.
