NOTES

Body of Beanie is worked top-down in rounds. Ribbing is worked in rows and joined to the final round of Beanie at the end of every second row.

BEANIE

CROWN

Using a 4mm hook and Yarn A, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch2 (counts as tr throughout), (tr, ch1) into ring, (2tr, ch1) 5 times, ss to top of beg ch-2 to join. [12 tr, 6 ch-1 sps]

Round 2 (RS) Ss into next ch-1 sp, ch2, 4tr in same ch-sp, 5tr in each ch-1 sp around ss to top of beg ch-2. [6 5-tr groups]

Join Yarn B into sp between two groups of 5-tr.

Round 3 Ch1 (does not count as a st), 2dc in same sp, skip 1 tr, dc in bl of next 4 tr, (2dc in next sp between tr groups, skip 1 tr, dc in bl of next 4 tr) 5 times, ss to beg dc. [36 dc]

Round 4 Ch2, tr in bl of each dc around, ss to top of be ch-2. [36 tr]

Join Yarn A into any tr.

Round 5 Ch1 (does not count as a st), dc in bl of each tr around, ss to top of beg dc. [36 dc]

Round 6 Ch2, tr in next 4 dc, 2tr in next dc, (tr in next 5 dc, 2tr in next dc) 5 times, ss to top of beg ch-2. [42 tr]

Round 7 Ch2, tr in next 5 tr, 2tr in next tr, (tr in next 6 tr, 2tr in next tr) 5 times, ss to top of beg ch-2. [48 tr]

Round 8 Ch2, tr in next 6 tr, 2tr in next tr, (tr in next 7 tr, 2tr in next tr) 5 times, ss to top of beg ch-2. [54 tr]

Round 9 Ch2, tr in next 7 tr, 2tr in next tr, (tr in next 8 tr, 2tr in next tr) 5 times, ss to top of beg ch-2. [60 tr]

To make a larger Beanie, keep increasing by 6 sts each round to size required.

Round 10 Ch2, tr in each tr around, ss to top of beg ch-2.

Do not fasten off.

RIBBING

Turn Hat so WS is facing.

Row 1 (WS) Ch9, dc in third ch from hook (skipped ch-2 count as dc), dc in next 6 ch, dc2tog final ch and next tr from Round 10, dc in next tr from Round 10, turn. [10 sts]

Row 2 (RS) Ch1 (counts as dc), skip dc2tog, dc in bl of next 8 sts, turn. [9 sts]

Row 3 Ch1 (counts as dc), dc in bl of next 7 sts, dc2tog beg ch-1 of previous row and next tr from Round 10 of Beanie, dc in next tr from Round 10, turn. [10 sts]

Repeat Rows 2-3 around.

Once all trebles from Round 10 of Beanie have been worked into, ss seam the final row of ribbing to the opposite side of the beg ch-9. Do not fasten off.

TRIM

Change to a 3.5mm hook and continue with Yarn A.

Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as a st), *(dc, ch2, dc) in end of next row, dc in end of next row; rep from * around, ss to top of beg dc. Join Yarn B in any ch-2 sp. [90 dc, 30 ch-2 sps]

Round 2 Ch1, (does not count as a st), *(dc, ch2, dc) in ch-2 sp, skip next dc, dc in next st, skip next dc; rep from * around, ss to top of beg dc.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
