It all began with my Instagram account that I set up three years ago. I started with sharing some pictures of my first crochet designs (I think it was a granny square blanket) and pictures of our colourful home. It turned out lots of people around the globe enjoyed my pictures, probably due to my ‘signature style’: every image is taken in our home and has the same recognisable fresh and bright colour scheme. I also learned how to write and adjust crochet patterns, but it was difficult to share them on Instagram. At that point
I started thinking about writing a book with easy-to-make crochet designs and patterns. I was lucky enough to find a publisher that was immediately interested in creating a crochet book with me, and together we launched Haken met Studio Hip en Stip ( Crochet with Studio Hip and Dot). I loved creating and writing the designs and patterns and I especially loved the styling and layout of the book. It is very ‘me’!
My favourite colour is pink and I always add it in every design I make. I get my inspiration from the streets, Netflix or from magazines. I often start with making a doily (like the Colourful
Doilies in my book) as starting point or base for my designs (for example a blanket). That’s how I know if colours look good together.
I really love granny squares in all shapes and forms. Granny squares are really great to mix and match all kinds of colours together, and there are so many possibilities and versions. My favourite is the Confetti Granny Square that I used for the blanket on the cover of my book. That blanket is just one big, fun, bright and colourful party!
