Grab a slice of the amigurumi action with a mouth-watering piece of watermelon. The colours are so inviting you’d be forgiven for trying to take a bite!
NOTES
The Body of the Watermelon is made using the amigurumi method, working in a continuous spiral without closing off each round with a ss. You may find it useful to mark the first st of the round, moving the marker up as you go.
The Shell is worked in rows and joined to the Body at the end.

BODY
Using Yarn D, make a magic loop.
Round 1 (RS) Ch1, 6dc into loop. [6 dc] Round 2 2dc in each st around. [12 dc]
Round 3 (Dc in next dc, 2dc in next dc) 6 times. [18 dc]
Round 4 (Dc in next 2 dc, 2dc in next dc) 6 times. [24 dc]
Round 5 (Dc in next 3 dc, 2dc in next dc) 6 times. [30 dc]

Row 10 Ch1, 2dc in first dc, dc in each st to final dc, 2dc in final dc, turn. [6 dc]
Rows 11-15 As Row 2.
Row 16 As Row 10. [8 dc]
Rows 17-19 As Row 2.
Row 20 As Row 10. [10 dc]
Rows 21-28 As Row 2.
Row 29 Ch1, (dc2tog) first 2 dc, dc in each st to final 2 sts, (dc2tog) final sts, turn. [8 dc]
Row 30 As Row 2.
Row 31 As Row 29. [6 dc]
Rows 32-36 As Row 2.
Row 37 As Row 29. [4 dc]
Rows 38-42 As Row 2.
Row 43 Ch1, (dc2tog) twice. [2 dc]
Rows 44-45 As Row 2.
Fasten off.
TO FINISH
Insert the eyes between the Rounds 7-8 of Body, 8 sts apart.
Using Yarn E, embroider small straight stitches for the pips over Rounds 1-11 of Body. Using Yarn E, sew a V shape for the mouth over Rounds 8-9 of Body.
Using Yarn F, embroider two small straight stitches beneath each eye for the cheeks. Fold the Body in half and position the Shell along the open edge and, using Yarn B, work a round of dc to join the Shell and Body, stuffing as you go.
Weave in all ends.
