BUTTERFLY KEYRING
Beautify your keys with the addition of a dainty butter y and owers. By Nikki Trench
YOU WILL NEED
■ A small amount of any cotton DK in the following colours:
Yarn A yellow
Yarn B lilac
Yarn C orange
Yarn D bright pink
Yarn E purple
Yarn F pale pink
Yarn G green
■ A 3mm (US C/2 or D/3) hook
■ Split ring
TENSION
Tension is not critical for this project
MEASUREMENTS
Butterfly measures approx 5cm (2in) long Flower measures approx 4cm (1 in) in diameter
ABBREVIATIONS
picot Ch3, ss to last ch from hook For a full list, see page 86
Ring the changes and give your keys some crocheted mates to hang around with while they’re jangling about in your bag. The colourful butterfly and flowers might make them easier to find!
NOTES
Butterfly Wings, Body and Flowers are made separately. The Wings and Body are sewn together to form the Butterfly shape.
KEYRING
BUTTERFLY
WINGS
Using Yarn A, ch11.
Row 1 (RS) 2tr in fourth ch from hook, ch2, dc in next ch, ch2, (tr, dtr) in next ch, picot, ch3, ss in next ch (first Wing made), ch3, picot, (dtr, tr) in next ch of foundation ch, ch2, dc in next ch, ch2, 2tr in next ch, ch2, ss in final ch.
Fasten off leaving a 25 cm tail.
Fold in half so a Wing is sitting either side and use the tail to sew the foundation ch together.
BODY
Using Yarn B, ch7.
Row 1 (RS) 2dc in second ch from hook, ss in each ch to end.
Fasten off.
Sew Body to the centre of the Wings.
FLOWERS MAKE 3
PETALS
Make 1 each using Yarns D, E and F.
Ch4, ss to first ch to form a loop.
Round 1 (RS) (Ch5, ss in loop) 5 times. [5 petals] Fasten off.
STALK
Join Yarn G to WS of Flower, ch6. Fasten off leaving a 15cm tail.
TO MAKE UP Using Yarn C, sew a spot in each corner of Wings, referring to the image as a guide. Attach the ends of the Stalks and the Butterfly to the split ring. Weave in any remaining ends.
