I taught myself to crochet while going through a stressful junior year in college, and each time I picked up my yarn and hook, I was able to relax completely. When I realised the extent of what crochet could do for my mind, I became dependent on the craft. I learned to love crochet because of the benefits to how it made me feel.

From a simple leaf on a tree to an architectu­ral design, I find inspiratio­n in almost anything. However, one of my favourite places to look for inspiratio­n comes from my very own wardrobe. I like to incorporat­e different concepts and ideas of knitwear I’ve purchased when designing some of my garments.

This may seem strange to some people, but I love to crochet in silence. For me, getting lost in my thoughts as I work each stitch is one of the best parts about crocheting. I usually use this quiet time to reflect on things that are on my mind and it helps me process my thoughts.

I love all of my crocheted pieces dearly as they each have a story to tell, but if I were to choose a favourite, it would have to be my

Meira Ruffle Crop Top. It’s a top down circular yoke design using a shell pattern, which turned out beautifull­y. This top is most special because of the lessons it taught me as a designer. I had to experiment with different techniques to get the ruffles exactly how I wanted and when I felt like giving up, determinat­ion and patience saw me through. This design really gave me the courage to test my crochet limits, no matter what the circumstan­ces were.
