■ Any DK yarn in yellow, white,
pink and green
■ A 3.5mm (US E/4) hook
NOTES
Square is worked in rounds with RS facing throughout. Parts of the pattern are worked in a continuous spiral without closing off each round with a slip stitch. You may find it helpful to mark the first st of the round, moving it up as you work.
SUNNY SIDE UP SQUARE
Using yellow, make a magic loop.
Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), 6dc in loop. [6 sts]
Round 2 (RS) 2dc in each st around. [12 sts]
Round 3 (Dc in next st, 2dc in next st) 6 times, ss in next st. [18 sts]
Fasten off.
Join white in any st.
Round 4 (Dc in next 2 sts, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [24 sts]
Round 5 (Dc in next 3 sts, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [30 sts]
Round 6 (Dc in next 4 sts, 2dc in next st) 6 times, ss in next st. [36 sts]
Place live loop of white on marker on the RS of your work.
Join pink in bl of first st.
Round 7 (Working in bl throughout) Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), (tr, ch2, 2tr) in st at base of ch-3, *tr in next st, htr in next st, dc in next 4 sts, htr in next st, tr in next st**, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) in next st; rep from * 3 times more ending final rep at **, ss to top of beg ch-3. [48 sts, 4 ch-2 sps]
Round 8 Ch3, *tr in each st to ch-2 sp, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) in ch-2 sp; rep from * around, ss to top of beg ch-3. [64 sts, 4 ch-2 sps] Change to green.
Round 9 Ch1, (dc in each st to ch-2 sp, 3dc in ch-sp) rep around, ss to beg dc. [76 sts]
Fasten off.
Place live loop of white on hook. Working in unused fl from Round 6, dc in next st, htr in next 2 sts, tr in next 2 sts, 2dtr in next st, dtr in next 2 sts, tr in next st, htr in next 2 sts, 2dc in next st, htr in next 2 sts, tr in next st, dtr in next 2 sts, 4tr in next st, htr in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, htr in next 2 sts, 4tr in next st, htr in next st, dc in next 2 sts, htr in next st, 4tr in next st, htr in next st, 3dc in next st, htr in next st, tr in next st, 5dtr in next st, tr in next st, ss to beg dc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
