■ Any 4ply yarn in 13 rainbow

shades (see Notes)

■ A 3.5mm (US E/4) hook

NOTES

Square is worked in rounds with RS facing throughout. You will need to use 13 rainbow colours. Order your colours beginning with the darkest purple through to red. Use this order when changing colours for the first 13 rounds. When changing colour, fasten off the previous colour and join next colour in any st. Work over the tails to reduce the number of ends you need to weave in.

EPICENTRE SQUARE

Using first colour, ch4 and ss to last ch from hook to form a loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), 8dc in loop, ss to beg dc. [8 sts]

Change to next colour.

Round 2 (RS) Ch1, 2dc in each st around, ss to beg dc. [16 sts] Change to next colour.

Round 3 (1dc, 2dc in next st) 8 times, ss to beg dc. [24 sts] Change to next colour.

Round 4 (2dc, 2dc in next st) 8 times, ss to beg dc. [32 sts] Change to next colour.

Round 5 (3dc, 2dc in next st) 8 times, ss to beg dc. [40 sts] Change to next colour.

Round 6 Ch1, dc in each st around, ss to beg dc.

Change to next colour.

Round 7 (4dc, 2dc in next st) 8 times, ss to beg dc. [48 sts] Change to next colour.

Round 8 (5dc, 2dc in next st) 8 times, ss to beg dc. [56 sts] Change to next colour.

Round 9 (6dc, 2dc in next st) 8 times, ss to beg dc. [64 sts] Change to next colour.

Round 10 (7dc, 2dc in next st) 8 times, ss to beg dc. [72 sts]

Change to next colour.

Round 11 As Round 5. Change to next colour.

Round 12 (8dc, 2dc in next st) 8 times, ss to beg dc. [80 sts] Change to next colour.

Round 13 (9dc, 2dc in next st) 8 times, ss to beg dc. [88 sts] Change to colour used for Round 2.

Round 14 Ch1, *dc in next 9 sts, htr in next 3 sts, tr in next 2 sts, (tr, dtr in next st), (dtr, ch2, dtr) in next st (corner made), (dtr, tr) in next st, tr in next 2 sts, htr in next 3 sts; rep from * 3 times more, ss to beg dc. [100 sts, 4 ch-2 sps]

Round 15 Ch1, *dc in each st to last st before ch-2 sp, htr in last st across side, (htr, ch2, htr) in ch-2 sp, htr in next st; rep from * around, ss to beg dc. [108 sts, 4 ch-2 sps]

Round 16 Ch1, *dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-2 sp; rep from * around, ss to beg dc.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
