NOTES

Square is worked in rounds with RS facing throughout. Colours are referred to as Yarns A-C. The Square pictured is made using a glitter yarn, which is referred to as Yarn A.

STARBURST SQUARE

Using Yarn A, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), 11tr in loop, ss to top of beg ch-3. [12 sts]

Round 2 (RS) *Ch6, ss in second

ch from hook, dc in next ch, htr in next ch, tr in the next ch, dtr in the next ch, skip 1 st, ss in next st; rep from * 5 times more working final ss in base of beg ch-6. Fasten off.

Join Yarn B in any skipped st from Round 1 and work next round behind the sts from Round 2.

Round 3 Ch3, 3tr in st at base of ch-3, 4tr in each skipped st around, ss to top of beg ch-3. [24 sts]

Round 4 Ch3, tr in st at base of ch-3, (tr in next st, 2tr in next st) 11 times, tr in final st, ss to top of beg ch-3. [36 sts]

Round 5 Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), dc in next 4 sts, (dc in next st and the top of the next star point of Round 2, dc in next 5 sts) 5 times, dc in next st and the top of the next star point, dc in next st, ss to beg dc. Fasten off.

Join Yarn C in any st.

Round 6 Ch3, (tr, ch2, 2tr) in same st, *2tr in next st, htr in next st, dc in next 4 sts, htr in next st, 2tr in next st**, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) in next st; rep from * 3 times more ending final rep at **, ss to top of beg ch-3. [56 sts, 4 ch-2 sps]

Round 7 Ch1, *dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp; rep from * around, ss to beg dc.

[64 sts, 4 ch-2 sps]

Round 8 Ch1, *dc in each st to ch-2 sp, (dc, ch2, dc) in ch-sp, skip next st; rep from * around, ss to beg dc. [68 sts, 4 ch-2 sps]

Round 9 As Round 7.

[76 sts, 4 ch-2 sps] Fasten off.

Join Yarn A in any ch-2 corner sp.

Round 10 Ch1, *(dc, ch2, dc) in ch-2 sp, dc in next 3 sts, spiked dc in st 1 row below, (spiked dc in st 2 rows below, spiked dc in st 3 rows below, spiked dc in st 2 rows below, spiked dc in st 1 row below) 3 times, dc in next 3 sts; rep from * 3 times more, ss to beg dc.

[84 sts, 4 ch-2 sps]

Round 11 As Round 7. Fasten off and weave in ends.
