YOU WILL NEED

■ Any DK yarn in pale yellow,

bright yellow and blue ■ Black stranded cotton

■ A 3mm (US C/2 or D/3) hook ■ Stitch marker

NOTES

Square is worked in rounds with RS facing throughout. Parts of the pattern are worked in a continuous spiral without closing off each round with a slip stitch. You may find it helpful to mark the first st of the round, moving the marker up as you work.

BRIGHTSIDE SQUARE

Using pale yellow, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch1, 6dc into loop.

[6 dc] Round 2 2dc in each st around.

[12 dc]

Round 3 (Dc in next st, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [18 dc]

Round 4 (Dc in next 2 st, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [24 dc]

Round 5 (Dc in next 3 st, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [30 dc]

Round 6 (Dc in next 4 st, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [36 dc]

Round 7 (Dc in next 5 st, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [42 dc]

Round 8 (Dc in next 3 st, 2dc in next st, dc in next 3 st) 6 times, ss to beg dc. [48 dc]

Change to blue.

Round 9 (Working in bl throughout) Ch1, *dc in next 2 sts, htr in next 2 st, tr in next st, 2tr in next st, ch2, 2tr in next st, tr in next st, htr in next 2 st, dc in next 2 st; rep from * 3 times more, ss to beg dc. [56 st, 4 ch-sp]

Round 10 Ch3 (count as tr), *tr in each st to the ch-2 sp, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) in ch-sp; rep from * around, ss to top of beg ch-3. [72 st, 4 ch-2 sp] Fasten off.

Join bright yellow in any unused fl from Round 8 with a ss.

Round 11 *Ch4, dc in second ch from hook, htr in next ch, tr in next ch, skip 2 sts from Round 8, ss in fl of next st; rep from * around working final ss in base of beg ch-4. Fasten off.

Using black stranded cotton, embroider facial features onto the sun. You can use the image as a guide.

Weave in all ends.
