YOU WILL NEED

■ Any DK yarn in 3 colours ■ Scrap DK yarn in black and

white

■ A 3.5mm (US E/4) hook

NOTES

Square is worked in rounds. Parts of the pattern are worked in a continuous spiral without closing off each round with a slip stitch. You may find it helpful to mark the first st of the round, moving it up as you work. Colours are referred to as Yarns A-C.

TICKLE TIME SQUARE

Using Yarn A, make a magic loop.

Round 1 (RS) Ch1 (does not count as st throughout), 6dc in loop. [6 sts]

Round 2 (RS) 2dc in each st around. [12 sts]

Round 3 (Dc in next st, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [18 sts]

Round 4 (Dc in next 2 sts, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [24 sts]

Round 5 (Dc in next 3 sts, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [30 sts]

Round 6 (Dc in next 4 sts, 2dc in next st) 6 times. [36 sts]

Place live loop of Yarn A on a marker on the RS of your work to use later in patt.

Join Yarn B in bl of first st.

Round 7 (Working in bl throughout) Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), (tr, ch2, 2tr) in st at base of ch-3, *tr in next st, htr in next st, dc in next 4 sts, htr in next st, tr in next st, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) in next st; rep from * 3 times more ending final rep at **, ss to top of beg ch-3. [48 sts, 4 ch-2 sps]

Round 8 Ch3, *tr in each st to ch-2 sp, (2tr, ch2, 2tr) in ch-2 sp; rep from * around, ss to top of beg ch-3. [64 sts, 4 ch-2 sps] Change to Yarn C.

Round 9 Ch1, (dc in each st to ch-2 sp, 3dc in ch-sp) rep around, ss to beg dc. [76 sts] Fasten off.

TENTACLES

Place live loop of Yarn A on hook. Working in unused fl from Round 6, *ch15, htr in third ch from hook, 2htr in next 12 ch, ss in fl of next st; rep from * 7 times more. [8 Tentacles]

Fasten off.

EYES (MAKE 2)

Using black, make a magic loop.

Round 1 Ch1, 6dc in loop, ss to beg dc. [6 sts] Fasten off.

Sew the Eyes to the Square. Using white, embroider a small st over each eye. You can use the image as a guide.

Weave in all ends.
